Chapter Twenty

SCORPIO (October 24-November 22) Jupiter is entering your love zone which can play havoc with your relationships, both new and old. On the other hand, a little friction will create big sparks.

After work on Monday, Miranda put on her purple shades and walked down the block to Hannah's Tavern. Although it was early in the week, she and Dana had to get together to talk--in great detail--about the prior week's events.

With each step, her mind replayed the scene at the country club. She couldn’t help but notice the way Vernon Lansing had glared at her after Cody had beaten him at the golf tournament. What was that about? It wasn’t her fault! She knew that Vernon would use any excuse he could to destroy her relationship with Trevor.

Their relationship was beyond tentative at this point. She hadn't seen him since Sun Valley, and although he'd indicated he wanted to go out with her again, she wasn't sure how she felt about that, or about him. Any mishap could--to put it in terms Trevor would understand--yank out by the roots the little they had between them, and kill it.

Her practical side told her she shouldn’t let that happen. Everything she'd learned about Trevor indicated he should be her Soul Mate.

On the other hand, why did Cody make her pulse race? He was everything she didn't want, everything she'd fled from as a young woman in Wyoming and Missouri, where her life would have been boring, provincial, and completely uncool.

She was not going to have anything more to do with Cody McCord, she decided...except to go to Miss DeJourdin's dinner party with him.

Why in heaven's name had Miss DeJourdin invited him to her house? Miranda knew that Trevor had never been invited, even though his parents had been there several times. Miss DeJourdin was one of those people who had money and influence enough that she didn't have to stand on any kind of propriety, but simply did what she wanted, when she wanted.

When Miranda entered the tavern, Dana was already at their favorite table.

"I'm beyond pissed off at Lloyd," Dana cried, lamenting that Lloyd Arkesian, the man she'd long expected would become husband number four.

"Lloyd?" Miranda was surprised to hear Dana mention him.

"I called him," Dana continued, "and asked what had happened to him since he didn’t show up for my open house. He said he’d forgotten, which was even worse than not giving me any excuse at all! I should forgive him because he forgot about me? Hah, forget him! Either he comes with a doctor's certificate about early Alzheimer's, or it's over."

"Or maybe," Miranda ventured, "he came, saw you with that cowboy, and decided not to stay."

Dana lifted an eyebrow. "You think? Hmm. He did sound a little cool on the phone. Could he be jealous? Wow. That puts a whole new spin on things. If I was interested in him, making him jealous would be a good thing."

"I’m confused. I thought Blu Bryant had all your attention these days.
